Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML) is making strides in gender inclusivity within the EV sector through its Mahindra WE (Women Entrepreneurs) Hunnar initiative. Launched as a pilot program in July 2024, the initiative has successfully empowered women through skill development, driving training, and EV maintenance education. Now, MLMML plans to expand the program to other cities across India.

Empowering Women Through Skill Development

The initiative has trained 245 women in three key areas:

  • Driving three- and four-wheelers: 52 women have been trained and licensed, equipping them with skills to earn a sustainable livelihood.
  • Customer care executive roles: 185 women have been trained in customer service, securing placements in mobility-related industries.
  • EV repair and maintenance: 8 women have received hands-on training in electric vehicle servicing and repair, enabling them to participate in the growing EV ecosystem.

To ensure financial independence, MLMML has partnered with financial institutions to facilitate loans for women entering the mobility sector.

A Vision for Inclusive Mobility

Suman Mishra, MD & CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, emphasized the company’s commitment:

“The Mahindra WE Hunnar initiative is our commitment to creating equitable access to mobility and livelihoods. By empowering women through skill development and entrepreneurship, we are fostering a more inclusive and sustainable future.”

Expansion Plans and Industry Impact

Initially launched in Bengaluru, the initiative’s success has prompted MLMML to scale it to other cities, reinforcing Mahindra’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals and commitment to inclusive growth in the EV sector. The program is run in collaboration with Lok Bharti Education Society, a key training partner.
